Shum rewards: what a leaderboard spot pays
Each cabinet has a leaderboard of preset scores. According to XboxAchievements, getting onto it earns a customization item, a Reset Item and a Health or Power Upgrade Point for finishing top — but second place is already enough for the best of the rewards, so you rarely need a perfect run.
- Stubble (cosmetic): earn a leaderboard position in the Parkour challenge in northeastern Central (KeenGamer).
- Armoured Helmet M1 (cosmetic): earn a leaderboard position in the Survive challenge in northern West Incursion Zone (KeenGamer).
- Novelty Magnet (Artifact): a high score on the post-game cabinet in Dylan’s Apartment. Equipped, it shows nearby small resource crates on your minimap (Gamer.org).
- SHÜM! trophy / achievement: simply play any Shum III cabinet once — no score needed (XboxAchievements).
Why they are worth it: Upgrade Points permanently raise Dylan’s health or power, and Reset Items pay for respeccing. Hotfix 1.3.3 already made respeccing cheaper, so the arcade’s free Reset Items stretch further — handy before a boss like the Deserter.
We have not found a source that names the customization item for the Downtown, Evacuation Zone, The Park, Underpass or Unknown cabinets. KeenGamer also lists an outfit piece called “Fit” for completing “its associated Arcade Cabinet challenge” without saying which cabinet.
Downtown arcade cabinet
Unlocks at: Zone Level 6. Challenge: Defend — protect an FBC shipment from waves of Hiss.
Where: inside the Wear ’Em & Wash ’Em laundromat on the extreme southern edge of Downtown, near a fast travel point. You do not need Reach: climb the roofs and jump across the levitating platforms to get in (XboxPlay, Game Rant).
This is a different Wear ’Em & Wash ’Em from the Central laundromat that hides the washing machine puzzle.
Central arcade cabinet
Unlocks at: Zone Level 4. Challenge: Parkour — sprint through an obstacle course to the finish line as fast as you can.
Where: inside the Urban Fresh Mart in the northeastern part of Central; it is freely accessible. A leaderboard position here earns the Stubble cosmetic.
Evacuation Zone arcade cabinet
Unlocks at: Zone Level 6. Challenge: Survive consecutive enemy waves.
Where: on the eastern side of the zone, behind a locked door that needs a Level 2 Keycard. You get the keycard during a main story mission, so come back afterwards. Hardcore Gamer describes it as the building with a bright red glow.
West Incursion Zone arcade cabinet
Unlocks at: Zone Level 3 — the lowest requirement of any cabinet. Challenge: Survive — defeat multiple waves of enemies.
Where: in the Atlantis Cafe near the Empire Avenue fast travel point, on the northern side of the zone. You need both the Shift and Reach abilities to get in. A leaderboard position earns the Armoured Helmet M1.
The Park arcade cabinet
Unlocks at: Zone Level 4. Challenge: Survive — an intense wave-clearing fight.
Where: in the north of The Park near the Mold Factory fast travel point, inside a building with a red door. Hardcore Gamer says it sits behind a Mold wall that only a fire ability can destroy, so if you cannot get through, come back once you have Ignite.
Underpass arcade cabinet
Unlocks at: Zone Level 5. Challenge: a timed trial — wipe out the enemy waves before the clock runs out.
Where: in the southeast of the Underpass, reached during the Maintenance Protocol quest. After Dylan opens the quest door, keep going straight past the objective instead of turning toward it (Game Rant). Hardcore Gamer places it on the eastern side near the zone’s fast travel door.
Unknown arcade cabinet
Unlocks at: Zone Level 5. Challenge: Parkour.
Where: in the west of the Unknown zone near the Factory Island fast travel point; reach it by jumping from a Gravity Well (Game Rant, XboxPlay). Hardcore Gamer puts it on the southwest side, through a door with a “Stop. Think. Before It’s Too Late” sign — a useful landmark once you are close.
Post-game cabinet in Dylan’s Apartment
Unlocks: after you finish the main story. Challenge: Conquest, a combat challenge where you eliminate every enemy to push your score as high as possible. Game Rant calls it “more unique” than the zone cabinets.
Reward: a high score unlocks the Novelty Magnet Artifact, which marks nearby small resource crates on your minimap — useful for mopping up the collectibles you missed (Gamer.org).
Challenge types and how to score
| Type | Goal | What matters | Cabinets |
|---|---|---|---|
| Parkour | Reach the finish line | Speed | Central, Unknown |
| Survive | Last through the waves | How long you survive | Evacuation Zone, West Incursion, The Park |
| Defend | Protect an FBC shipment | How much of the asset’s health is left | Downtown |
| Timed waves | Clear waves before the timer | Kill speed | Underpass |
| Conquest | Eliminate every enemy | Total points | Dylan’s Apartment (post-game) |
- Raise the zone first. A cabinet will not appear until its zone reaches the listed level, so side quests and cleared threats in that zone come first.
- Aim for second, not first. Second place already pays the best of the rewards, according to XboxAchievements.
- Respec for the fight. For Survive, Defend and timed waves, a crowd-control Aberrant build scores far better than a single-target boss build. Reset Items are cheap since hotfix 1.3.3.
- Retry freely. None of the guides we checked mention a limit on attempts.
Conflicts between sources
- Underpass: Game Rant, XboxPlay and ShowGamer describe a timed wave-clearing trial; Hardcore Gamer calls it Defend.
- Unknown and Central: all sources agree these are Parkour or obstacle courses.
- The Park: only Hardcore Gamer mentions the Mold wall that needs fire; the others just describe a red-door building near Mold Factory fast travel.
- Cabinet count: Game Rant’s headline says seven and its intro mentions ten, but it and every other guide list the same seven zone cabinets plus the post-game one — eight in total.
- Challenge categories: XboxAchievements names four — Survive, Clocked, Defend and Parkour — plus Conquest after the story. “Clocked” is most likely the Underpass timed trial.
Checked against six written guides on September 29, 2026. We have not played every cabinet ourselves, and score thresholds for each leaderboard are not published in any source we found.
Shum arcade FAQ
What are the SHÜM rewards in Control Resonant? Placing on a cabinet’s leaderboard pays out a customization item, a Reset Item and a Health or Power Upgrade Point. XboxAchievements says you get all of it by finishing top of the leaderboard, but second place is enough for the best rewards. Two named rewards: the Stubble cosmetic from the Central Parkour cabinet and the Armoured Helmet M1 from the West Incursion Zone Survive cabinet (KeenGamer).
How many SHÜM III arcade cabinets are there? Eight: one in each of the seven zones — Downtown, Central, Evacuation Zone, West Incursion Zone, The Park, Underpass and Unknown — plus a post-game cabinet in Dylan’s Apartment that unlocks after the main story.
Are the arcade cabinets marked on the map? Not at first. Game Rant notes the cabinets are not marked on the map from the start, and each one only appears once its zone reaches the required level (Zone Level 3 to 6).
What does the post-game arcade cabinet give you? The cabinet in Dylan’s Apartment runs a combat challenge where you eliminate every enemy for the highest score. Gamer.org says a high score there unlocks the Novelty Magnet Artifact, which shows nearby small resource crates on your minimap.
Is there a trophy for the SHÜM arcade? Yes. Playing any Shum III cabinet for the first time unlocks the SHÜM! trophy on PS5 (Bronze) and the SHÜM! achievement on Xbox and Steam, according to XboxAchievements. You do not need a high score for it.
