Control Resonant Update 1.4 Patch Notes, Explained

What Game Update 1.4.0 and Hotfix 1.4.1 changed, sorted by what you will actually notice: New Game++, combat balance, quest fixes, UI and PC performance.

Short answer

Game Update 1.4.0 arrived on October 1, 2026 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and Hotfix 1.4.1 followed on October 2. The headline is New Game++: unlimited New Game+ runs on one save. 1.4.0 also cuts combat in the Unknown Zone by 10–15%, makes some SHÜM Challenge scores easier, adds a Power Core Charge Duration slider to Assist Mode, shows Build Power on the Loadout screen, raises save slots from five to seven, and fixes The Last Taxi not granting rewards. 1.4.1 fixes The Park Resonant quest, where eating the Mold had stopped working.

Dates are the posting dates of Remedy’s announcements on the CONTROL Resonant Steam news page. Some fan sites list 1.4 as October 3; that matches neither the Steam post nor the press coverage on October 1. Remedy published no download sizes. For the launch hotfix, see how 1.3.3 changed the Deserter boss.

New Game Plus Plus

At launch, a finished save could be carried into New Game+ only once. Remedy promised a fix in its post-launch plans on September 25, and 1.4.0 delivers it: “You can now play an infinite number of runs of CONTROL Resonant in New Game ++.”

  • Unlimited runs: start NG+ after NG+ without erasing your progress.
  • Better NG+ rewards: rewards were updated “to ensure players can max out every Zone in New Game+ somewhat easier”.
  • Separate NG+ saves: New Game+ saves now go into their own folder, and the main menu shows seven save slots instead of five.
  • NG+ fixes: the Into the Sinkhole miniboss now spawns correctly in NG+, and Zoe’s NG+ dialogue makes sense again.

NG+ is also where Dylan gets a fourth Artifact slot, so it is the run to try builds you skipped. Planning a second run? How long a full playthrough takes tells you what you are signing up for.

Combat and balance changes

  • Unknown Zone: “Decreased the overall amount of combat and intensity by 10%-15%.” This was the zone players struggled with most; see our Unknown zone guide.
  • Assist Mode: new Power Core Charge Duration multiplier from 100% to 300%.
  • Air executions: the game now refunds one dodge and one jump after an air execution if you were out of both.
  • Co-Director Resonant: fixed a bug that made triggering a Perfect Dodge “nigh-on impossible” in that fight.
  • Push: reactions of mini-bosses and heavy enemies were tuned.
  • Sunder: lifetime slightly increased.
  • The Park: the Firebreak employee doing his job there is “a lot stronger”.
  • SHÜM: some SHÜM Challenge scores were made easier — good news for the arcade leaderboards.
  • Fixes to Shield, Ground Slam, Command charge cost, Status Spread, the Executive Order upgrade and the Power Drill secondary weapon.

Is the game too hard? These changes stack with hotfix 1.3.3. Our difficulty explainer covers what Assist Mode can and cannot change.

Quest and collectible fixes

Several fixes explain problems players reported in launch week. If a quest or reward broke for you, these are the lines to check:

IssueFixed in 1.4.0
The Last TaxiQuest was not granting any rewards
Novelty Magnet ArtifactDid not show small Resource Crates on the map
A New DirectiveFailed to start or progress if a polaroid camera caught you
Panopticon Service RequestCell door to the radio opened too early
The Complete SetDelay on the Subwoofer interaction removed
Carbon Copy Part 2Phone call did not trigger
New GrowthQuest step completion was not recognised
Hedron fight“Repeating, Refracting” achievement timing; phase 1 arena adjusted
Downtown“Customer Complaint” collectible prompt

The Last Taxi fix matters most: guides disagreed on whether the quest gives anything, and now we know why. Our Last Taxi guide covers what to check after updating. The Magnet fix makes the post-game reward from the SHÜM arcade work as described.

UI and quality of life

  • Build Power is now shown on the Loadout screen.
  • The HUD flags new items to buy or upgrade in the Gap.
  • Pinned upgrade materials can be checked against Vendor stock through the Vendor icon on the map.
  • Separate volume slider for radio dialogue, and an option to mute the copyrighted opening credits song.
  • Improved Unknown Zone rooftop signposting, and a default zoom fix for dungeon maps.
  • Rush ability tutorial now explains that it removes status effects.
  • Razer haptics support; DualSense adaptive trigger effects retuned.
  • Spoiler warning added to the Digital Deluxe Edition artbook; ultrawide display fixes.

PC and console performance

Remedy lists performance optimisations aimed at PCs on the minimum and recommended specs, crash fixes on all platforms, better lighting performance across every zone, and frame-rate fixes for the Artist Resonant special attack and the approach to the Dancer Resonant.

  • DLSS Frame Generation scaling improved, and V-Sync now works with it.
  • HDR highlight saturation fixed (AgX tonemapper); fewer artifacts and less pixelation.
  • Crash when toggling ray tracing modes fixed; the Frame Rate Limiter now keeps its setting.
  • Steam Controller reconnection fixed; a PS5 video artifact and an Xbox Series X audio cut-out fixed.
  • AMD released optional driver 26.9.2 alongside the update with performance and crash fixes.

Hotfix 1.4.1

Posted on Steam on October 2, 2026, the day after 1.4.0, with two fixes:

  • The Park Resonant quest: eating the Mold — a required step — had stopped working, blocking progress. It works again.
  • Movement: Dash momentum carries into Surge and Elevate again.

If you were stuck in The Park Resonant quest after 1.4.0, update to 1.4.1 and reload; no other workaround was published.

What is coming next

In its September 25 post-launch plans, Remedy said New Game++ would arrive in October — done — and that Photo Mode is expected sometime in November, followed by more cosmetics for Dylan in later updates. No date for a 1.5 update had been announced as of October 6, 2026.

Patch notes FAQ

What is the latest Control Resonant update? Hotfix 1.4.1, posted on Steam on October 2, 2026, one day after Game Update 1.4.0. It fixes The Park Resonant quest step where eating the Mold stopped working, and restores Dash momentum carrying into Surge and Elevate.

When did Control Resonant update 1.4 come out? Game Update 1.4.0 was announced on Steam on October 1, 2026 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Remedy did not publish download sizes in its notes.

What is New Game++ in Control Resonant? Before 1.4 a finished save could go through New Game+ only once. New Game++ removes that limit, so you can start NG+ run after NG+ run without erasing progress, and 1.4 also adjusts NG+ rewards so every Zone is easier to max out.

Did update 1.4 make the Unknown easier? Yes. The patch notes say the overall amount and intensity of combat in the Unknown Zone was decreased by 10 to 15 percent, and the rooftop signposting there was improved.

Does update 1.4 fix The Last Taxi reward? Yes. One line in 1.4.0 reads that the team fixed an issue where The Last Taxi quest was not granting any rewards — which explains why some guides reported no reward at all.
