Traversal abilities
| Ability | Where | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Double Jump, Elevate, Rush | Orientation Fault, Downtown (story) | Second jump; float and glide; a speed burst that also clears negative status effects |
| Shift | Incursion Fault, parking garage, northwest West Incursion Zone | Reorient on Gravity Anomalies and walk on walls and ceilings |
| Reach | Subway Fault, Railyard Street Station, northeast Evacuation Zone | Grapple to spherical anchor points across gaps |
KeenGamer says the only order that works is Incursion → Subway → Underpass: the Subway Fault needs Shift, and the Underpass Fault needs Reach. The Underpass Fault and the final Fault ritual give no new ability.
How to unlock Shift
- 1. In the West Incursion Zone, get the key from the security guard and go back to the Parking Garage in the northwest corner.
- 2. Unlock the garage doors and take the interior elevator to the rooftop level.
- 3. Jump into the pit of warped parking lanes. The TV is across the gap at the bottom.
- 4. Follow the Astral Plane path to Jesse. Shift unlocks, then a short tutorial runs.
Shift opens the route to the Theater and the Dancer, the karaoke rooftop in The Party Won’t Stop, and the Subway Fault that gives Reach.
Combat abilities by Resonant
| Resonant | Zone | Pick one |
|---|---|---|
| The Artist | Downtown (Orientation) | Barrage, Volatile Anomaly or Shield |
| The Dancer | West Incursion Zone, Theater | Push or Ground Slam |
| The Deserter | Central, Patterned Factory | Ignite or Inferno |
| The Collective | Beneath the Park (optional) | Spore Burst or Growth |
| The Physicist | Underpass, top of the Spire | Spike or Astral Rebuke |
| The Co-Director | The Unknown, Field Office | Command (no choice) |
- Barrage fires projectiles; Volatile Anomaly summons an entity you can throw; Shield absorbs damage and adds a Shield Bash on dodge.
- Push knocks enemies back, into hazards if you aim it; Ground Slam hits harder the further you fall.
- Ignite adds Fire and Burn to melee; Inferno sends out fire waves that hit groups.
- Spore Burst fires rapid Mold shots; Growth summons up to two worm allies that build Infected.
- Spike plants an Astral Spike that knocks enemies down; Astral Rebuke launches them for an air combo. Both apply Astralized, which speeds up Burn and Infected buildup.
- Command turns enemies into temporary allies, and each extra use spends a purple Command Charge.

Locked choices, Reset Items and the Resonant Token
Taking one combat power locks the others from that Resonant. Two things change that:
- Reset Items, used at the mural in the Gap, let you redo a choice. Most Resonants drop one, and the Artist drops two (KeenGamer).
- The Resonant Token, from the Pope’s Research side story in the Unknown, adds one extra combat power you passed on without giving up your current one.
Abilities stack with Artifacts. Our best Artifacts guide covers the builds that pair with Ignite and Spike.
Abilities FAQ
How do you unlock Shift in Control Resonant? Finish the Incursion Fault in the parking garage in the northwest of the West Incursion Zone. You need a key from a security guard to open the garage, then you take the elevator to the roof and drop into the pit.
Can you get every combat ability? Not on the first pick. Each Resonant offers a choice and the others lock. Reset Items at the mural in the Gap swap a choice, and the Resonant Token from Pope’s Research adds one extra ability you passed on.
Which ability do you get from the Unknown Resonant? Command, with no choice. It turns enemies into temporary allies and uses purple Command Charges.
What order do the Faults go in? KeenGamer says the only order that works is Incursion (Shift), then Subway (Reach), then Underpass, because each Fault needs the ability from the one before it.
