Control Resonant Sever the Hedron Links Walkthrough

Main mission 10: getting back to the Unknown, the Pope’s Research step that opens the islands, both Hedron Link bosses and what the mission pays.

Short answer

Return to the Unknown through Roof Access, push Pope’s Research until its Gravity Wells reach the outer islands, then sever the two links in either order. The south link by the Patterned Evac Building spawns the Hedron Factor; the northeast link by the Patterned Field Office spawns the Hedron Proxy. Beating both gives a Living Shard and the trophy Stop it At the Source.

Before you start

Sever the Hedron Links opens the moment you finish main mission 9, The Hedron Link. Its first marker sends you back to the Oldest House in Downtown, not straight into the Unknown.

  • 1. Take the elevator on the floor above Pope and choose Roof Access.
  • 2. Activate the Oldest House Rooftop fast travel door on your left so you can skip the elevator next time.
  • 3. Step into the Unknown. The quest log now asks you to progress Pope’s Research.

The Hedron Links sit on outer islands you cannot reach yet. Pope’s Research is what connects them (PowerPyx):

  • Find a balloon, cut it down to drop a crate, and break the crate for a probe.
  • Carry the probe to the red circle near that balloon. The minimap shows the spot and the probe beeps as you get close.
  • Place the probes in order. Each one raises a Gravity Well that throws you to the next island.
  • Each island has one research site; the central island has two.

Finishing all of Pope’s Research also gives the Resonant Token, which adds a second combat ability slot. That is worth having before the two link fights.

On the south island, follow the platforms toward the island with the link and jump across. Interact with the TV to sever it and the fight starts.

  • It summons one heavy enemy at a time. Put the boss aside and kill the heavy first.
  • When its health reaches the blue marker, a wave of smaller enemies spawns. Clear them before the next heavy arrives.
  • It drops mines on the ground at intervals. Keep moving and do not finish combos standing on them.

On the northeast island, climb the platforms up to the link island, jump across and interact with the TV.

  • Its body is made of brick-like heavy enemies that break off and charge you. Dodge the charge, then punish the recovery.
  • Once only a few heavies are left, groups of small enemies spawn on the ground. Keep one eye on them while you track the big ones.

Near the Field Office you also pass the route to the Co-Director, the Unknown’s Resonant. It is optional for this mission; see all bosses.

Where do you start Sever the Hedron Links? It starts as soon as The Hedron Link ends. Go back to the Oldest House in Downtown, take the elevator on the floor above Pope and pick Roof Access to reach the Unknown.

Do you have to finish Pope’s Research first? You have to progress it. PowerPyx lists it as the objective that unlocks the islands with the two Hedron Links: each probe you place opens a Gravity Well to the next island.

Which Hedron Link should you do first? Either. PowerPyx says the mission completes once both bosses are down, in any order. The Evac Building link is on the south island and the Field Office link is to the northeast.

What do you get for Sever the Hedron Links? One Living Shard and the Bronze trophy Stop it At the Source. The next main mission is Rebuild.
